President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the abduction of students of Government Girls Science Secondary School, Jangebe in Zamfara State will be the last. 

Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika who led a high-powered delegation to sympathise with the people and government of Zamfara over the abduction, delivered the President's statement to residents of the state. 

Sirika who disclosed that new measures have been developed by the federal government to curb criminality in the country, commended Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara’s efforts against armed banditry and promised a continued support to bringing lasting peace.

He said; 

“The President is saddened by the abduction of the students from Jangebe and reassures you that the government has all the resources and wherewithal to contain these criminals.

“Buhari also commended Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara for his efforts against armed banditry and promised continued support to bring lasting peace.

“The federal government will continue its partnership with the Zamfara government and its citizens in resolving the security challenges facing the state."

Governor Matawalle also appreciated the federal government’s concern. He said; 

“I strongly believe in the president and his effort in fighting all forms of insurgence and urge him to improve on the nation’s security.

”This is by ensuring synergy among the security agencies so that confrontations with criminals can be coordinated on the ground and (in the) air simultaneously."

Late American actor, Chadwick Boseman won a posthumous award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globes Award on Sunday, February 28. 

He won for his portrayal of a trumpet player named Levee in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom over fellow nominees Gary Oldman (Mank), Anthony Hopkins (The Father), Tahar Rahim (The Mauritanian), and Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal).

His widow Simone Ledward Boseman accepted the award on his behalf at the virtual event. 

Appearing via video link at the ceremony, an emotional Simone said: He would thank God. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices,” she said. 

“He would say something beautiful, something inspiring, something that would amplify that little voice inside of all of us that tells us you can, that tells you to keep going, that calls you back to what you are meant to be doing at this moment in history.”

Ledward could then be seen fighting back tears as she continued her emotional speech following the actor’s death.

She added: “I don’t have his words but we have to take all the moments to celebrate all we love, so thank you, HFPA, for this opportunity to do exactly that.”

She then addressed her late husband, saying: “And honey, you keep ’em coming. Thank you.”

Chadwick Boseman died at the age of 43 last summer after a four-year battle with colon cancer, which he hadn’t spoken about publicly.

A physically disabled Zimbabwean woman, Sinikiwe Kademaunga has announced that she is expecting her first child with her partner.

Kademaunga, 26, who was born without hands, knees and feet, took to Instagram to share photos of her burgeoning baby bump. 

"Hey guys. I cant believe i am going to be a whole mom, a whole mom guys. How great is God. 2020 was such a difficult year but God gave me a comforter, a blessing, a bestfriend and my pride. I know this child is going to be nothing but a blessing to us (dad and I) and generations to come. I cant wait to hold, kiss, touch, feel, smell you. I am so grateful.
Now i can post my full body pics in peace." she wrote. 

Kademaunga, who is currently making waves as a motivational speaker, said life was not easy for her while growing up. 

"When I was born it was very hard for my family to accept that I was born with a disability because at that time when a child was born with a disability, it was considered to be a curse from God,” she said. 

Kademauga manages to do her own and others’ makeup and hair without hands using just her arms, which end at the elbow. She said once she decided to love, accept and be kind to herself the rest followed. 

"I want to say to all people living with disabilities believe in yourself. You are magic. You are exceptional and wonderful with whatever disability that you have. You are just beautiful in your own way. Believe in yourself, don’t let the world define you, or tear you down. Whatever dream that you have, somebody out there needs you, go out there fly high.” she said. 

Kademaunga, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from University of Cape Town, in 2019, launched her company SK, that specialises in motivational speaking and personal development.

Kademaunga said she understands reasons that drive people living with disabilities onto the streets to beg for alms.

"For us people living with disability, it is hard out there to compete with able bodied people. Looking for jobs and other opportunities. But I want to say to those people (living with disabilities), keep on working hard, it’s not the end of the world because you are living with disability and never look down upon yourself.”

Kademaunga, who calls herself "The Confidence Coach" said she has no regrets in life.

"Everything that has happened in my life, I take it as a learning opportunity. I take it as a learning curve that has led me to be the person I am now,” she said.

In 2016, she received recognition for her courage to confront her disability at Zimbabwe’s International Women’s Awards.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has dismissed reports that there will be an increment in the ex-depot price of petrol in March, 2021.

A press release by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Dr. Kennie Obateru, stated that the Corporation was not contemplating any raise in the price of petrol in March in order not to jeopardize ongoing engagements with organized labour and other stakeholders on an acceptable framework that will not expose the ordinary Nigerian to any hardship.

Obateru in the statement cautioned petroleum products marketers not to engage in an arbitrary price increase or hoarding of petrol in order not to create artificial scarcity and unnecessary hardship for Nigerians.

The Corporation further stated that it has enough stock of petrol to keep the nation well supplied for over 40 days and urged motorists to avoid panic buying.

It further called on relevant regulatory authorities to step up monitoring of the activities of marketers with a view to sanctioning those involved in products hoarding or arbitrary increase of pump price.

Boko Haram terrorists have released a new video showing children undergoing religious and combat training in a camp.

HumAngle reports that the images show relatively young children dressed in combat-style clothing and balaclava participating in martial arts training, weapon handling training, and religious education class. At least two instructors and one child had what appeared to be the Zastava M21, likely captured from Cameroonian security forces. 

The Zastava M21, built based on the Kalashnikov design, has appeared in previous pictures shared by Boko Haram factions or reported to have been recovered by security forces. Some children were also shown holding different Kalashnikov pattern assault rifles with under folding, side-folding and fixed wooden stocks.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana has reacted to the arrest of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje's former media aide, Salihu Tanko Yakasai 'Dawisu'. 

Recall that Salihu was arrested and subsequently sacked by the Kano state governmemt after he called for President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation over insecurity.

The Alliance for Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond (ASCAB) led by the Senior Advocate of Nigeria who demanded for the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Tanko-Yankasai from "illegal custody", recalled how leaders of the APC including Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Tinibu, Malam Nasir El-Rufai and Alhaji Lai Mohammed repeatedly asked former President Goodluck Jonathan to resign between 2013-2014. 

Falana wondered why Salihu would be arrested after many civil society, chieftains of the APC and both chambers of the National Assembly have called for Buhari’s resignation or impeachment over insecurity.

The statement read; 

“On Friday, February 27, 2021, Mr. Salisu Tanko-Yankassai, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state called on President Mohammadu Buhari to either guarantee the security of the Nigerian people or resign from office. Even though Mr. Tanko-Yankassai was legitimately exercising his freedom of expression enshrined in section 39 of the Constitution he was sacked by Governor Ganduje and arrested by the State Security Service. ASCAB has confirmed that Mr. Tanko- Yankassai is being held incommunicado in an undisclosed detention facility.

“Having regard to the fact that civil rights advocates, retired military officers and political party leaders including chieftains of the All Progressive Congress have repeatedly asked President Buhari to call it quits due to the worsening insecurity in the country there is no justification whatsoever for the arrest and detention of Mr. Tanko- Yankassai.

"In both chambers of the national assembly, there have been strident calls by legislators for President Buhari’s resignation or impeachment on the ground that criminal gangs have taken over the monopoly of violence in the country. Since such concerned citizens were never arrested the ongoing harassment of Mr. Tanko- Yankassai is high-handed, discriminatory, and illegal.

“It is on record that the APC and its leaders including General Mohammadu Buhari; National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinibu; Malam Nasir El-rufai and Alhaji Lai Mohammed repeatedly called for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s resignation between 2013 and 2014. Yet they were never subjected to any form of intimidation for exercising their freedom of expression at the material time. Since the call for President Buhari’s resignation is likely to continue to be made by other concerned individuals and groups over the virtual collapse of the security architecture of the neocolonial State it is pertinent to draw the attention of the State Security Service to the case of Arthur Nwankwo v The State 1985 6 NCLR 228 where the Court of Appeal charged the Nigerian people to engage in relentless criticism of democratically elected governments. In particular, Olajide Olatawura JCA (as he then was of blessed memory) had this to say:

"‘The decision of the founding fathers of the present Constitution which guarantees freedom of speech which must include freedom to criticise should be praised and any attempt to derogate from it except as provided by the constitution must be resisted. Those in public office should not be intolerant of criticism in respect of their office so as to ensure that they are accountable to the people. They should not be made to feel that they live in an ivory tower and therefore belong to a different class. They must develop thick skins and where possible, plug their ears with wool if they feel too sensitive or irascible.’

“In view of the foregoing, we demand for the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Tanko-Yankassai from illegal custody. However, if the State Security Service has evidence that the political detainee has committed any criminal offence known to law he should be transferred to the Police for proper investigation and possible prosecution without any delay.”

The school girls who were abducted from the Government Secondary School in Jangebe, Zamfara State have regained their freedom. The girls are currently in the palace of the Emir of Anka waiting for transportation to Gusau, the state capital where they are to meet with the state governor, Bello Matawalle.

On Friday, February 26, armed bandits stormed the school and abducted the students. 

It is not certain if it is all or some of the girls that have been freed.
